CLASS SETUP OVERVIEW
Set up is simple: mats for children and grown-ups, your instruments/equipment, a tablet and speaker. Set yourself up facing the door so families see you as they enter. Leave space for pushchairs to park.
BEFORE YOUR CLASS
Check your register (via Book That In) so you know who's coming and can greet them by name. Set up a class WhatsApp group named 'Baby Band + venue + time', using the Baby Band logo as the profile picture. Check instruments and equipment are clean and match the day's set list, print your session plan. Download Spotify playlists in advance in case there's no venue wifi.
ON ARRIVAL
Check the room for hazards. Lay out one mat per child plus a couple of spares. Wipe mats with anti-bacterial spray before each class. Place maracas in the middle for children to play with as they arrive. Set up the instrument table opposite the entrance, keeping most instrument bags hidden until it's time. Fill the bubble machine and test it. Put a low-volume arrival/leaving playlist on.
ENGAGING FAMILIES AS THEY ARRIVE
Greet each family with a smile and use their names. Chat informally while waiting for everyone to arrive. Take the register discreetly rather than formally, to keep the atmosphere relaxed. Let families choose where to sit and whether to keep shoes on. Start on time, don't wait for late arrivals.
AFTER YOUR CLASS
Pack away and clean equipment (either on the spot or at home). Let children help stack mats. Leave the room exactly as you found it, tables/chairs away, lights off. Message any new families to thank them for coming.
